Restore old photos

Bring back contrast, detail and resolution in prints that have spent forty years in a drawer.

What this tool does

Repair handles the four things age does to a photograph at once: contrast faded toward grey, detail gone soft, physical damage on the paper, and a resolution that was low to begin with. The result exports at up to four times the size of your capture, which is what makes framing possible.

Good for

  • Prints from the 1950s through the 1990s
  • Photos captured with a phone rather than a scanner
  • Whole boxes of family photographs, worked through a pile at a time

Where it stops working

The model reconstructs plausible detail, which is not the same as recovering the truth. Keep the untouched capture as the record and treat the restoration as a viewing copy.

Common situations

Questions about restore old photos

Do I need a scanner?

No. A phone photo taken flat in soft daylight, with the flash off, gives the model plenty to work with.

Can it print at A4?

Usually yes. The 4x upscale takes a typical phone capture of a snapshot to a size that holds up on paper at arm’s length.
